Troubleshooting: "Need admin approval" signing in with Microsoft

If you sign in with Microsoft and land on a screen that says “Need admin approval” — with “Teamio” marked unverified and the message “Teamio needs permission to access resources in your organization that only an admin can grant. Please ask an admin to grant permission to this app before you can use it” — nothing is wrong with your account or with Teamio. Your practice’s Microsoft 365 simply needs to approve Teamio once.

Many Microsoft 365 setups require an administrator to approve any new app the first time someone at the organization uses it. The first person at your practice to sign in to Teamio with Microsoft trips this prompt. It is a one-time approval for the whole practice — once an admin approves it, you and everyone else can sign in with Microsoft normally from then on.

This usually appears during onboarding, when your team is logging in to Teamio for the first time.

The screen also shows a “Return to the application without granting consent” link. Clicking it just sends you back without fixing anything — the approval below is what actually lets your team in.

Your practice’s Microsoft 365 administrator needs to approve Teamio once. This is the person (often your IT company, or whoever set up your office email) who holds one of these Microsoft roles: Global Administrator, Cloud Application Administrator, or Application Administrator.

A regular staff account can’t approve it — if the Accept button is greyed out, the account being used isn’t an admin. Hand this off to whoever administers your Microsoft 365.

There are two easy ways for the admin to do it:

Option 1 — straight from the screen (easiest)

Section titled “Option 1 — straight from the screen (easiest)”

On the same “Need admin approval” screen, click “Have an admin account? Sign in with that account,” sign in as the administrator, then click Accept.

Option 2 — from the Microsoft admin center

Section titled “Option 2 — from the Microsoft admin center”
  1. Sign in at entra.microsoft.com as an administrator.
  2. Go to Enterprise applications → All applications and open Teamio.
  3. Click Permissions in the left menu.
  4. Click Grant admin consent for <your organization> and confirm.
Section titled “Option 3 — ask Teamio for a direct approval link”

Prefer not to dig through the portal? Ask your Teamio contact for a direct admin-consent link. Your admin opens it once, signs in, and approves — same result, no menus to navigate.

That’s it. After the admin approves once, everyone at your practice can sign in with Microsoft.

  • Not sure who your Microsoft 365 admin is? It’s usually your IT support company, or whoever originally set up your @yourpractice.com email accounts.
  • The Accept / Grant button is greyed out. The account in use doesn’t have an admin role — ask whoever does to complete the step.
  • Your Teamio contact is happy to hop on a short call with your admin and walk them through it.
