Subtasks, wiki links, and patient comments

A single task can hold a lot more than a one-liner. Inside the Task Details panel you can split it into subtasks, attach a wiki page, link a patient, and log comments back to the chart. Open any task (select its text on My Tasks) to find these sections.

Use subtasks when one task is really a short sequence of steps that you still want to track as a single item.

  1. Open the task and expand the Subtasks section.
  2. Enter a step in the Add a subtask… input and add it.
  3. Tick each subtask off as you finish it — a progress bar shows how far along the task is.
  4. Drag subtasks by their handle to reorder them; use the trash control to remove one.

An empty task shows a No subtasks yet — break this task into smaller steps prompt.

Select Attach a Wiki to link a wiki page — a protocol, a phone script, a consent checklist — directly to the task. Whoever picks the task up has the reference one click away instead of hunting for it.

Tag a patient on a task by entering # in the composer and choosing them from the typeahead (it lists patients with their date of birth). The patient appears as a pill that links to their profile, and the task shows in the Patients section of the detail panel. This is what # does — it is not a category tag. Categories use the separate Add tags… multiselect.

The Comments section is a threaded discussion attached to the task, so the back-and-forth lives with the work instead of scrolling away in chat. The list shows a comment count, with a ! when there are unread comments.

When you write a comment, tick Save to CommLog to copy it into the linked patient’s Open Dental CommLog — so a note like “left voicemail re: balance” lands in the patient’s chart, not just in Teamio.
